  • πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ Movie Night for Trans Day of Remembrance πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ
Hosted at Algoma University – The NEST (NW201) | 7:30 PM
All staff, faculty, students, and community members welcome!

Join us for an evening of reflection, community, and celebration of resilience as we observe Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) with a special screening of Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story in The NEST at 7:30 PM.

Trans Day of Remembrance, observed each year on November 20, is a time to honor the transgender, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse individuals whose lives have been lost to anti-trans violence. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the strength, creativity, and contributions of trans and gender-diverse people in our communities.

🎬 About the Film:
Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story tells the powerful story of Jackie Shane β€” a pioneering Black transgender soul singer from the 1960s whose music and identity challenged conventions and inspired generations. Through rare recordings, interviews, and archival footage, the film shines a light on Shane’s extraordinary life, artistry, and legacy.

This event offers a welcoming space for all to come together in remembrance and solidarity. Whether you are a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community or an ally, your presence and support make a difference.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

πŸ“… Date & Time: 7:30 PM
πŸ“ Location: The NEST, Algoma University
✨ Everyone is welcome!
