Power Search your Research: EBSCO Discovery Service @Algoma
The Arthur A. Wishart Library introduces the EBSCO Discovery Service (OneSearch) at Algoma University to power your searches for relevant paper and electronic books and journals. One search, one place, one time.
The EBSCO Discovery Service has enabled the Arthur A. Wishart Library at Algoma University to integrate both its catalogue records and electronic resources, providing students and faculty with a “one-stop shop” for library research. With a single search box on the library home page, users will find more relevant resources than ever before.
The Evolution of Discovery
Touted as the next-generation approach to research, discovery solutions have become a critical component within most academic library systems, playing a vital role in the effort to showcase the value of a library’s collection, providing a unified index and changing the way resources are searched. As libraries have shifted focus from print catalogs and resources to OPACs, e-journals, eBooks, subject indexes and full-text databases, it’s become necessary for the perception and habits of the search experience to evolve as well—for both end users and library administrators.
A Single Search is Just the Beginning
In the beginning, discovery solutions were focused on being a faster approach to searching a library’s collection through a single search box, without regard to the quality of the search experience. Now, as discovery continues to evolve, librarians are realizing that just because more content can be found behind the discovery search box doesn't mean that users should be forced to accept a lower-quality experience than what they have come to expect from searching high-end academic research databases.
EBSCO Discovery Service Takes Discovery to the Next Level
EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) takes research to the next level through a perfect combination of content and technology, taking into account all of the critical elements in the research process, and changing the expectations of how a discovery solution can and should address the needs of its users, whether it's:
- A simple search by an undergraduate student
- A sophisticated search by a post-graduate researcher
- A library administrator looking to quickly and conveniently streamline resources
EDS provides a fast, streamlined search through a single search box, but within the context of a greater experience that pulls together intuitive features and functionality, high-end indexing via Inclusion of Subject Indexes, and instant access to critical full text, leveraged from the leading EBSCOhost research platform and databases, as well as from key information providers. And as EDS continues to evolve, the end goal remains the same—helping users to find and access the highest-quality content for the best-possible research experience.
